Alternative Education Providers (SCC)

The resources on this page are reviewed annually at least.  They will be updated as and when necessary.

Education settings in Sheffield sometimes use 'Alternative Education Providers' (AEP's), usually for young people aged 14-18 years. Those providers who have been approved through Sheffield City Council (SCC AP's) are eligible for safeguarding training, support, advice and guidance through the Quality Assurance and Involvement Service (QAIS), People Portfolio.

AEP specific policies & procedures 2021-22:

Generic policies & procedures:

Schoolpoint:

      Safeguarding Children Training:

Basic Safeguarding Children in Education Training for  Alternative Education Providers (SCC) is required every 3 years (face to face) for all staff with regular contact with children and young people. In Sheffield this is provided free of charge alongside Sheaf Training. For more information contact Daina Cummings, details below.

      Safeguarding Children Annual Audit:

For a number of years schools and colleges have been required to provide a safeguarding annual report to the Local Authority. This year we are introducing a shorter safeguarding children annual audit for SCC AP's to help the Quality Assurance and Involvement Service (QAIS) and Sheffield Children Safeguarding Partnership (SCSP) to:

      • Support your organisation to develop an effective safeguarding response to the needs of the young people at your setting
      • Help QAIS to identify any gaps in training and support
      • Help schools to understand that you take safeguarding seriously
      • Help the SCSP to assess the safeguarding effectiveness of Alternative Education Providers (SCC)

      Information and resources:

The safeguarding information and resources section will provide learning tools about specific safeguarding issues to help practitioners to develop their knowledge and that of their colleagues. The resources include SCSP fact-sheets, policies & protocols, guidance materials, e-learning courses and other training.
